Event Description:

Word Hunger is a project of Brick Street Poetry Inc., an Indiana not-for-profit committed to sharing poetry with the world. The Word Hunger project will invite residents of four counties to come together in their individual counties to share with a local poet their ideas on the past and current relationship between food and their lives, their community and maybe even the world. Each poet will write a poem drawn from the community discussion. These poems will be painted on a barn in each community; a reading of the poems by each poet at their barn will be made into a video. When showing the video during this event, we will invite the original participants from the four counties, Boone, Marion, Putnam, and Hamilton, as well as the public at large to experience the relationship between food and these various communities through poetry.

Indiana has a rich agricultural history. Hoosier farmers have been and continue to be leaders in food production to the country and to the world. Through the Word Hunger video presentation attendees will have the opportunity to connect with that history as well as gain a better understanding of how farming in Indiana affects the communities in the video and their own lives.

The four poets who will be writing poems for this project are Phoenix Cole, Marion, Barry Harris, Boone, Joe Heithaus, Putnam, and Ruthelen Burns, Hamilton. All are published poets and have worked on similar projects in the past.
