Event Description:

Experience the powerful sound and community of an American drum circle. All participants, from beginning to advanced drummers, are invited to play and discover the history and communal role of drum circles in American society.

Following the drum circle, Dr. Kevin Burke, assistant professor of music at Franklin College, and Dr. Sally Childs-Helton, percussionist, ethnomusicologist, and music educator, will share insights on the history and role of drum circles in American society and will lead the audience in a reflection on how this transformative experience of play might enrich the well-being of the community.

No drumming experience is required and attendees can bring their own djembe or can use one that will be provided.

Presented by Franklin College and Franklin Symphonic Council. Questions? Call 317-738-8185 or email publicrelations@franklincollege.edu.
