David Shaheed

David  Shaheed

David Shaheed was elected judge in the Marion County Superior Court in 2002 and re-elected in 2008.  Shaheed serves as the judge of Civil Court 1.  In addition, he has been involved in inter-faith dialogue for thirty-five years.   

Shaheed has been a lecturer on a variety of topics including the following:

  • Interreligious Dialogue and Human Rights, SEDOS Conference, Rome, Italy, 2003
  • Significance of prayer in Al-Islam, Conference of Men Superior National Assembly, Scottsdale, Arizona, 2005
  • Religious Freedom and Islam in America, Fordham University, School of Law, 2001

Shaheed was the producer of a weekly news and Islamic perspectives television program, “Al-Islam in America.”  He was a consultant to the Lilly Endowment on the growth of Al-Islam in America.  He made pilgrimage to Mecca, Saudi Arabia in 1987 as the leader of a group of nearly 500 American Muslims in February 2003.

Judge Shaheed was part of the delegation of Imam W. Deen Mohammed in 1999 for the Muslim-Focolare dialogue.  Shaheed has worked with Muslim groups within the United States and has been in dialogue with Muslims in the United Kingdom, the Middle East, Africa, and Italy.
