Shannon McGuire

Shannon McGuire is a classically trained musician. Her main instrument of study at Ohio Wesleyan University was violin, but she sings and plays oboe, piano, flute, viola, and djembe. She has played violin with the Columbus Symphony Youth Orchestra and Central Ohio Symphony Orchestra, taught violin lessons, and directed musicals for high school and community theater. She put the violin aside while completing her doctorate in clinical psychology. During her clinical internship in a university counseling center, she worked with a number of music conservatory students dealing with performance anxiety. She currently has a private psychology practice in Shelbyville, Indiana, but enjoys making music--including singing with the Indianapolis Women's Chorus and playing with Thin Air--in her free time. As a psychologist, she is particularly interested in the use music and improvisation in anxiety management and mindfulness practices.
