Pat Brown

Pat Brown could be considered either a lazy and cheap gardener or very ecologically minded. There are certain areas in her garden that she has not raked, watered, or treated chemically since 1988. She can get away with it because her garden is made up of woodland wildflowers, as it has been for some 44 years, wherever she has lived and in many different types of environments. She has incorporated plants rescued from dumps and from beneath tires, mattresses, and doghouses; she will go to almost any extreme to save a native gem. A member of the Irvington Garden Club, Pat supports tree plantings in the Irvington area and manages the Bona Thompson Conservatory. She also spearheads the “Plant the Cloverleaf” project at the oldest cloverleaf in Indiana.
