NiCole Keith

NiCole R. Keith, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor in the Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, Department of Physical Education and an Affiliated Research Scientist in the IU Center for Aging Research at Regenstrief Institute. Dr. Keith is a Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), an elected member of its Board of Trustees, chairs ACSM’s Committee on Diversity Action and is a member of the ACSM’s Membership Committee, Health and Fitness Summit Program Committee, American Fitness Index and Exercise is Medicine Advisory Boards. Dr. Keith is an accepted Affiliate of the African American Collaborative Obesity Research Network. She also is a member of and a reviewer for the Society of Behavioral Medicine and a reviewer for the American Journal of Preventive Medicine and the Journal of Physical Activity and Health.

In Indianapolis, Dr. Keith is a member of the YMCA Health and Wellness Committee and the West District YMCA Board of Managers. She earned her B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees from Howard University, University of Rhode Island, and University of Connecticut respectively.  In 2009 Dr. Keith received a Career Award from the National Institutes of Health (National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute). This 4-year award allows Dr. Keith to examine ways to improve physical fitness and health within an aging population. Dr. Keith also is co-founder of the Indiana University-Physically Active Residential Communities and Schools (PARCS) program. This 8-year old program is housed in three Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) and provides physical activity opportunities for over 2,000 adults and children living in IPS communities. In 2011 she received an award from the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Foundation to measure the influence of PARCS on the health outcomes of its adult participants. She has dedicated her career to conducting research that reduces and eventually eliminates the existing racial and socio-economic health disparities gap.

She and her husband, Floyd Keith (Executive Director of the Black Coaches and Administrators) are proud parents of four beautiful children: Kenyari (16), Imani (12), Mikia (10), and Kailan (7).  The Keith family currently resides in Indianapolis, Indiana.
