Steve Bray

Eight-time Emmy-winner Steve Bray is News Director and Chief Meteorologist at WISH-TV, responsible for managing WISH-TV's award-winning news team and leading WISH-TV's Forecast 8 Team.

Steve joined the WISH-TV team in January of 1995 as weekend weather anchor and Director of WISH-TV’s Local Weather Station. He was promoted to Chief Meteorologist in August 1999. In July of 2001, Steve was honored with a prestigious fellowship at the Jack R. Howard Science Institute at California Institute of Technology and became WISH-TV’s Science & Technology reporter.

His unflinching commitment to excellence and dedication to non-stop coverage of events like the State Fair Stage Collapse led him to be named Assistant News Director in December 2011.

Over the years Steve has distinguished himself in not only his daily forecasts and presentations, but also his coverage of major weather events and breaking news stories. From the tornado outbreaks in June of 1998, September 2002, and May 2004, to historic hurricane landfalls like Rita and Katrina, Steve has spent hours of exhaustive coverage on weather events making news.

For his outstanding efforts in the field of broadcasting, Steve has received the AMS Seal of Approval and eight Emmy Awards: three for Weather Broadcasting;  one for Weather Reporting, one for writing and producing on the documentary "Fireworks of Glass"; 2012 Breaking News Coverage for “Ten Hours of Severe Weather”; 2012 Best News Weathercast for “In the Middle of an Ice Storm”; and 2012 Weather – News Feature for “State Fair Stage Collapse Weather”. He has also received a first place award from the Indiana Society of Professional Journalists for his reporting on the structural storm damage to a downtown Indianapolis building.

Prior to coming to WISH-TV, Steve received numerous awards while working at WALA-TV in Mobile, Alabama, and KPLC-TV in Lake Charles, Louisiana. He began his career at WAND-TV in Decatur Illinois after graduating from Northern Illinois University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology in December of 1985.

When not at WISH-TV Steve enjoys playing golf, softball, basketball and coaching youth sports. Steve and his wife Paula have two children, Samantha and Jordan, and family dogs named Wrigley and Walter.
