Mark Latta

Mark Latta directs CityWrite, a city-wide memoir project in Indianapolis that has collected the personal stories of over 1,100 people since 2012. His interest in public literacy and sociolinguistics has led to multiple ethnography and memoir projects centered on clarifying human experience through language and shared narratives. He has edited and assisted in the creation of four anthologies published through INwords and was honored to receive the Nuvo Cultural Vision Award (2008) and William H. Plater Civic Engagement Medallion (2012). His grant-funded ethnographies include I Am East 10th Street, a public art memoir installation relating the stories of those who live and work along east 10th Street, and No Mean Thing, a collection of street stories collected from CityWrite due out in late 2014. In addition to his responsibilities as a faculty member of the Marian University English Department and Assistant Director of the MU Writing Center, he works with the Indiana Writers Center Memoir Project as a program instructor and technical editor.
