William J. Jackson

William J. Jackson is The Thomas H. Lake Scholar in Religion and Philanthropy.  Lake Scholars pursue a program of research, teach a class, and produce a book related to a special topic on religion and philanthropy.  The working title of his proposed work is "The Wisdom of Generosity: Images of Good-Hearted America in Literature and Folklore."  His aim is to produce an anthology of readings that represent images of giving, generosity, and compassion in the American imagination in two periods of time: 1700-1865 and 1865 to the present.
