Timothy McGinley

Tim McGinley is Director of Vocal Studies at Marian College in Indianapolis where he teaches private voice, vocal pedagogy, choral literature and techniques, and Latin, Italian, German and French diction in the Performing and Visual Arts Department. Mr. McGinley also conducts the Marian College Chamber Singers and directs the Madrigal Dinner program of the College’s annual celebration of “Christmas at Marian.” Under his direction, the Madrigal Dinner has grown to become a perennial favorite on the Marian campus, performing to sold-out audiences at historic Allison Mansion. In addition to his work at Marian College, Mr. McGinley is in his third year as Director of Music at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Indianapolis.


Mr. McGinley received a Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance from the Conservatory of Music at Heidelberg College and a Master of Arts in Voice Performance from Eastern Illinois University. Additional graduate study has included coursework in sacred music at the SBTS School of Church Music and higher education at Iowa State University. Mr. McGinley also did graduate work in vocal performance at the University of Iowa and extensive graduate study in voice at Indiana University with Carlos Montane.


As a soloist, Mr. McGinley has appeared in opera, oratorio, recital and musical theater, and was engaged as a performer and student at the Aspen Music Festival in Aspen, Colorado. Mr. McGinley spent a season as resident tenor with the Indianapolis Opera Ensemble and performed extensively in schools and community centers throughout Indiana. He also appeared as Normano, captain of the guard, in the company’s production of “Lucia di Lammermoor.” His 25-year career in music has also included work as a conductor of college, church, community and professional choirs and orchestras and stage directing plays, musical theater and opera.


Mr. McGinley’s chancel musical, “Home: The Parable of Beatrice and Neal” was commissioned by the Reconciling Congregations Program of the United Methodist Church in Chicago and toured the Midwest in 1994 before being reprised in Indianapolis and Minneapolis in 1995. Licensed performances of the work have also been staged in Canada and Australia. Before coming to Marian College, Mr. McGinley taught voice and opera workshop at Taylor University in Upland, Indiana and spent time on the faculty of Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa, Iowa.
