Kristin Svyantek Garvey

Kristin Svyantek Garvey currently serves the International Center of Indianapolis as its Director of Operations and Government Relations and has been part of the staff since 1989.  Among her many duties, Kristin is the program director for the International Visitor Leadership Program, a U.S. Department of State-sponsored program.  


In 1998, Kristin completed the Ardeth Burkhart Leadership Series, a not-for-profit board leadership program, and in 2006, she graduated from the Richard G. Lugar Excellence in Public Service leadership program.  Kristin also serves on the board of directors of the Indiana Sister Cities and the Indianapolis Refugee Advisory Committee.  She maintains membership in the Heartland Film Festival, the North American Vexillologists Association and Women of the World—Women of Spirit.  She was a charter member of the National Women’s History Museum in Washington, DC.  Kristin is a member NAFSA: Association of International Educators.  During her membership with NAFSA, she served on the Subcommittee for Information Management for the International Student and Scholar Knowledge Committee and has served twice as Chair of Region VI (Kentucky, Indiana, and Ohio) and on the Regional Council at the national level.  She is a member of the NAFSA Trainer Corps. 


Kristin received her B.A. from Butler University in Indianapolis where she graduated cum laude with high honors in International Studies and French, with an academic emphasis in U.S.-Soviet Politics.   Kristin was a short-term exchange student in Buizingen, Belgium as a high school student and has traveled to British Columbia and Quebec Province, Canada as well as Italy.
