Event Description:

As part of the Ann Katz Festival of Books and Arts, people of all ages are invited to take part in a day of fun and fitness with workshops and activities that include yoga, collaborative dance, nutrition, art therapy, and more.

  • 9:30-11:30 a.m. ($20)
    Begin the day with a two hour yoga workshop led by author Meta Chaya Hirschl. Hirschl’s book, Vital Yoga. Cultivate a spiritual balance and connection with yoga health benefits.

  • 10:00 a.m.-1:30 p.m. (free)
    Garden on the Go – Fresh and affordable produce will be available.

  • Lunchtime
    Indianapolis food trucks:  Scout’s Treat Truck, The NY Slice, and Mabel on the Move will be in front of the JCC.

  • Noon-1:00 p.m. (free)
    JCC nutrition expert Katherine Matutes will lead an interactive workshop encouraging families and young children to experience new and healthy foods. A Second Helpings chef will provide tastings using seasonal and local foods as main ingredients.

  • Noon-1:00 p.m. and 2:00-3:00 p.m. (free)
    Art therapy with acclaimed artist Joani Rothenberg: Intergenerational event. Joani will lead participants in an art project and personal exploration. All supplies will be provided.

  • 1:30-3:30 pm (free)
    Four community dance groups will lead a performance and participatory based workshop focusing on dance as a means of communication and connectivity within a community. These groups include liturgical dancers from Sacred Dance Institute, Bharatanatyam dancers from the Kalakshiti Performing Arts Center, Greek Folk Dancing from Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, and Israeli Folk Dancing from Indianapolis Hebrew Congregation.

  • All Day Long – Pedal & Park
    Ride your bike to the JCC and park at the NUVO tent. It’s great exercise, you will reduce your carbon footprint and you will be eligible to enter a drawing to win great prizes. The tent will be staffed so that your bicycle remains safe during your visit.

  • All Day Long
    Multiple collection points will be located throughout the JCC for attendees to donate rice, pasta, dried beans, or tomato products to Second Helpings.
